Key to Purify Conscience
The 2nd canto of the Geeta explains Sankhyayoga (The Yoga of Knowledge). It teaches that the contact between senses and objects gives rise to heat and cold, pleasure and pain — all of which are temporary and fleeting.
“मात्रास्पर्शास्तु कौन्तेय…” — Lord Krishna explains that these experiences are not permanent, and one must learn to endure them. A wise person who remains steady in both pleasure and pain becomes eligible for immortality.
A natural question arises — is there a way to go beyond simply enduring these experiences? The answer is YES. This solution is beautifully explained in the Vachanamrut by Lord Swaminarayan.
In Gadhada First Chapter 8, it is stated that when the senses are engaged in the service of God and His devotees, the heart becomes pure and sins are destroyed. But when senses are directed towards worldly pleasures, the heart becomes impure and drifts away from liberation.
Though actions may appear similar outwardly, the intention behind them creates the difference. Service towards God purifies, while worldly attachment may lead to impurity.
Shreeji Maharaj emphasizes that our senses should always be directed towards God. Just like a knife is meant to cut vegetables and not harm someone, our senses should be used for the right purpose. Whatever we feed into our senses reflects back in our heart.
If we indulge in worldly objects, desires and impurities grow within us. But if we engage in divine experiences — darshan, kirtan, and seva — our heart fills with devotion and moves towards liberation.
A human heart is naturally pure. It becomes what we feed into it. Therefore, if we wish to elevate ourselves, we must consciously direct our senses towards the service of God and His devotees.
As seekers, we must constantly observe whether our senses are moving towards worldly distractions or divine connection. The choice always remains ours.
These teachings are further explained in various Vachanamruts like Gadhada 1-8, 38, Sarangpur-2, Kariyani-3, Loya-1 and others — all guiding the soul towards eternal peace.
Those ears are true which listen to the glories of Shri Hari.
That tongue is pure which sings His praise.
Those eyes are divine which behold His Moorti.
Those hands are worthy which serve Him.
Those feet are blessed which walk towards His abode.
